Restless Spirit

You walked away without looking back

Did you hear the calls from behind

Calmness is filling your space

I see now you had to leave

No turbulence or feelings of woe

Trapped in a world you resented

Broken free from a cage built with love

I see now it was never meant to be

Needless scars slashed across those who held the locks

Regrets of holding a restless spirit

Cradled soft hearts dropped from one made of stone

I see now they were a gift to me

Acceptance of the misunderstood

Wishing peace to a soul born with disquiet

Unspoken forgiveness passes in the night

I see you now and know there will never be a we

Powerful and poignant. “Wishing peace to a soul born with disquiet” is indeed futile.

That’s my only defense and way to understand is to wish them peace one day but I know you are correct
