Faded Petals of an Oak

Another day passes as I barely blink

Time whispered in my ear, urging me to heed

I ignored its words with things less important

Now frets etched in calligraphy across my brow

Creases and hues draped over skin once smooth

Remembered hands laced with adventure and youth

Wrapped in grabbing vines of ivy

Slow turning bones that were limber and swift

I sit to accept what I see no longer is truth

Another hand beaten with time takes hold of mine

Rough skin and weathered lips pull me in close

Always knowing exactly what I need

Many rings in his limbs twisted with time gently hold

Collected faded and fallen petals of his rose

Scarred branches softly comb hair

No longer silken or braided

Looking up with a smile I see

True beauty reflected, in the eyes of my mighty Oak Tree

I now listen with intent

To the whispers of time as it blows through his leaves

Giving its song of love and devotion as a gift to me

  1. How absolutely lovely to meet you…what a glorious post…poignant and beautiful and deep…you are so appreciated and I look forward to a continued connection with you…you radiate such warmth and nostalgia and an ability to be in the here-and-now–while remembering the foundation upon which your worldview first interpreted things. In other words, you’re a soul after my own heart. I would have clicked “like” on your About post, but I couldn’t find it. I loved your introduction. I will be back another time…thanks for sharing 🙂
