Heirloom Eggshells

on

How uncomfortable is the bed you built

Does it let you rest

Giving pillows filled with guilt

Sharing your burden of blankets

Swaddling within what should be your best

Finely laid egg shells break

Each step becomes more frantic

Lying awake in a bed of sharp pieces

Heirlooms passed down

Transferring their power

Ensuring self worth decreases

Adding to its foundation of rage

Let go what you have outgrown

Be strong and turn that heavy page

Protecting what is not yours high in a tower

Leaves no room for fresh linen or a clean hardwood floor
