Beyond the Feeders

Part I

Get up, put your feet on the floor. Ignore the now regular visitor gripping your back. Shuffle on auto pilot with one eye open to your comfort room. Push the button on the mornings best friend that you prepared the night before. Take in the aroma of what you crave before the sun peaks over the tree tops. Grabbing your favorite large mug that fits perfect in your hands with just the right amount of morning glory, a smile forms at the corners of your mouth with anticipation for the favorite moment of the day…..and then you see it…..

Standing at the window you wished now you never looked through, holding an empty cup you never were able to fill, absentmindedly you set the full coffee pot down on the edge of counter top. It falls to the tile floor shattering glass and hot liquid everywhere. You are oblivious to the sound it makes but the increasing burn on your toes fully awakens you back to the reality of your kitchen. A delayed screech escapes your throat and you jump out of the way too late. Snatching a hand towel to throw on the floor you take a glimpse out the window. Nothing there but the usual beautiful bird friends having breakfast at the feeders placed precisely in view for your pleasure. Everything is normal and familiar.

Turning your attention to the mess around your feet, slowly and mechanically your hands begin the process of cleaning the shards and liquid while your minds eye replays the vision that was oh so real. Wasn’t it? What was seen was real. Fully awake now with all senses firing and pinging through out the body you quickly finish the clean up chore and hurry to get dressed. You become consumed with the quest of knowing you are not hallucinating. The sky is smeared with an orange and gold glow as it gives way to the first sign of light. Normally the colors of a new day are part of starting your morning and you relish every minute during the colorful display, but not this day. In this moment you could care less about the sunrise other then to hurry up and cast light to where you are headed.

Where are you headed? Have you stopped to think about what you thought you saw actually could be real and going is a mistake? The biggest mistake of your life………

To be continued……

This is a short story I wrote for fun inspired by a possible truth. I will reveal a piece at a time. I hope it peaks your interest enough to come back and find out what happens to you……..
